National Transgender Day of Remembrance
Wednesday, November 28
In a local observance of the
National
Transgender Day of Remembrance, participants met at the Arlington Street
Church to remember Rita, a local transgendered youth who was murdered last
year. Nationally, killings of transgendered individuals are underinvestigated,
underprosecuted and misreported. Rita's killer remains unidentified, and
as is typical, no serious investigation has occured.

Nangeroni pointed to the domed building, saying that
the State House officials are neglecting their responsibilities and insulating
themselves from their constituents. She also noted that "...The only convicted
killers of transexuals in Massachusetts have not been caught, but have
turned themselves in."

After the talks outside the State House,
participants proceeded to a nearby support house for youths who are struggling
with gender issues, or with associated societal complications.
